It was the final week of the 2019 summer Gun Dog training classes and this week we went quartering and met the duck launcher!!
We did some quartering last week, and did more again this week. This is where you send your dog out left and right, getting their attention for a change of direction with your whistle. At a point where they're not looking, you drop your retrieve article and then keep searchign before they suddenly find it and can get a reward. It's good fun this one, and my dog Amber seems to really enjoy it (especailly the bit where she gets a treat for finding the item!)
The final task for the gun dog sessions this year was basically a missile launcher!!! It fires a retrieve item a long, long way and your dog has to go out, find the item, and bring it back. Some dogs were really good at this, but unfortunately Amber prefers to stick close to me and so didn't fancy the long retrieve. She was basically saying "if you want it, you go and get it". Which I did! 😂
